When I am in Germany I stay in the house of my fairy godmother which has been the same ever since I was a child.
It is the same but it is not old, it is fresh and light and airy and beautiful. Full of books and paintings old and new, antiques and white pressed bedclothes, gold rimmed crockery (Goldrand Geschirr) from her mother and big windows with a view of the main bridge over the river Ems.
It is full of stories. Childhood places have that about them. The ancestors are close by. This painting is based on the flowers in her garden and the flowers im “blauen Zimmer” where I slept as a child and now sleep with my kids when we stay here.
You don’t see a thing properly unless you have painted it. I love taking the time to see these things properly, because though they have been here forever they won’t be here forever.
