Let me tell your story
“I love how Kerstin weaves people's backgrounds, interests and personalities into her work to create these unique keepsakes. Her Artworks tell the most sensitive and delicate stories, with an ethereal, dream-like innocence.
Deeply rooted, yet suspended, each piece transports the viewer into a fairytale, giving us an insight into the sentimentalities of each individual client.
Both her work and Kerstin herself have a gentleness and serenity that make you feel warmly embraced and right at home.”

I make Art about Passionate People.
My name is Kerstin Walsh. I make Artworks about you and the things you love, using a photograph of your dress as my canvas.
The central theme in my work is you. I am driven by the thrill of hearing your story, of chewing through it all with you - the good, the bad and those parts you cannot put into words.
You and your memories are truly unique, fascinating and magical. Using you, an artefact or that special dress as inspiration, I would like to create an Artwork which will celebrate this moment, with all the poetry, symbolism and magic this entails.
My process is guided by a love and faith in the natural world and how it speaks to us. It is a little bit mystical and there is a smattering of wizardry to how a Portrait unfolds when you, me and the Dress come together. Weather, animals, the elements, flowers, herbs, objects, symbols, will all sing their song of you together, leaving you with something akin to a precious jewel which will remind you of who you are.
It would be my absolute pleasure to work on a Dress Portrait for you.

About the Artist & Dress Portraits
The world is full of magical things patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper
William Butler Yeats
“Look at the stunning Dress Portrait Kerstin Walsh created for our tenth anniversary present! It’s got our civilisation dresses in! With the girls’ wee strawberry frocks! And Lullaby of Birdland! And our homes and flowers, and even a teeny tiny Peppa pig just for E.!
It makes me smile and cry every time I look at it, and it will be an honour to have it living with us for the years to come. THANK YOU Kerstin.”

Notes from enthusiasts…
One of the most unique Artworks which I have found in my Art career is that of Kerstin Walsh. The medium and material she uses are entirely different and personal.
Kerstin calls her Artwork “Dress Portrait ” but to me they are “dress landscapes”. She portrays the person and her life with symbols that are familiar and exist around us all, such as boats, butterflies, leaves, clouds, water, fish, balloons, autumn, birds, stars/starfish, guitars, moons, and these elements are sensitive like emotions.
Each dress which she creates is entirely different, personalised and rich, with a variety of motives and symbols. The large surface of the dress is mostly covered with the pastelish colourful tones; but to my surprise they do not lose the core dominating white (or surface) colours. Like an expert portrait painter who always tries not to lose the flesh tone from the face for her portrait.
The dresses are fragments, signifiers of the time and space where once the people have taken their breath. They are not only the portrait but are the melting down of time, emotions, and life. And then preserving it.
The child-like treatment emphasises this sensitivity and fills these symbols with a purity and fragility that always demands great care. To me Kerstin’s Dress Portraits are like Wordsworth’s “Solitary Reaper”, in a landscape which is full of life, the Artist experiences her subject as a question: “Will no one tell me what she sings?”
Kerstin succeeds in taking her subject first, and then the viewer on this magical introspective and retrospective journey.
